The Root of all Evil

I had meant to post on this sooner, but well i didn't. Anyway it was a two part documentary on religion by leading athiest and scientist Richard Dawkins. If you ever want to read about current theory on evolution then he is your man, he's written plenty and for fairly complicated science he makes it understandable.

To be honest the writings were probably better than the show, it demonstrated perfectly well just how closed and insulated to small matters like evidence many of the more fundamentalists of all religions are, as well as how much of a cult religions can be as they manipulate and coerce the believer, the impressionable young in particular.

I good show all in, could have done with being much longer and wider in terms of scope to allow more rigourous discussion. The only downside to that was that those deepest and most extremely into their faith were the least likely to interact in reasoned discussion, for them it is about faith and blind faith at that.

It's a Mad world

I was gonna make a wee post about the robbing OF bastards that are rangers with their handball team but i've just been watching hte local news and a school in glasgow has brought in fake tan/beautician type experts because so many of their pupils are going to tannings salons during their lunch breaks. What sort of fucked up world do we live in, the number of these places is truly frightening and they you get loads in places like shitey wee schemes, i swear they must be peddling drugs or something, i don't see that many people walking about looking like Jimmy Calderwood or Tommy Sheridan.

Work recommencing..

...on my book.

The festive period is well and truly over, and just to make sure I wasn't enjoying back to back SPL wins to much Motherwell decided to roll over and take a spanking off St.Mirren in the cup. Truly abysmal performance and quite out of character these days it felt like watching Dunfermline.

Anyway we've got to home games against the OF due up, and if Clyde are anything to go by we should have nothing to fear, well other than us being totally unable to get anything off rangers in last 9 games and them having signed opponent from hell number 46934 Kris Boyd. He is guaranteed to score and we'll do well not to get humped. The Celtic game the week after should be better they have already had a modicum of revenge for last seasons late late trophy costing humping from a 5-0 cuffing at Parkhead and they'll likely wait until our CIS cup semi final to really rub it in.

Wouldn't mind so much losing in the cup but the performance wasn't just bad it was gutless and in front of an excellent travelling support it's a slap in the face. If i'd been on the park i'd have been offering my weeks wages back.

Still shit happens, swings and roundabouts at least i enjoyed the prematch build up, between Motherwell and Scotland it's a wonder there isn't more alcohol problems than there already is in lanarkshire.

Reading a new book also just now, bought courtesy of book vouchers, it's called Blood and Oil. Not finished it yet, but it occurs to me has no one thought that using less just might be a fucking good idea? Even if you could transport the entire supply of persian gulf oil to the USA and save money on these expensive wars it's still gonna run out sooner or later. Instead of expending so much more fighting over it, start building for a future beyond oil now and trying to make it stretch as far as it can seems a good way to start?

Anyway i'm off to get back to my own book just now.
