Freedom of Speech
Should we take the example of Voltaire, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it," or should we sometimes have to draw the line?
I have my doubts, in principle I can't help but think that in order for freedom of speech to mean anything you should be able to say whatever you like and that the power of argument should leave racists and holocaust deniers and their ilk in a small and ridiculed minority. That certainly sounds simple enough in the relative comfort of the democratic(flawed badly though it is) UK. The confines of Oxford Union being very different of the example of harm in Rwanda.
Still whatever side you come down on it's good to see people willing to demonstrate against these people, the Griffins and Irvings. Was this a publicity stunt by the Oxford Union, maybe maybe not given the potential for unwanted publicity.
Oh yeah and whilst this probably deserves a post of it's own, ID cards how much of a bad idea are they given the calamitous way the government has been shown to handle peoples personal details. The grandest folly outside of the Iraq war!
